About the Artist

Mark Chamness has a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Indiana State University, Terre Haute IN. Mark formed his interest in jewelry early on after he was hired to paint in the workshop of master wildlife carver Jules Bouillet. This is where in 1990 he first experimented with reproducing small carvings he had done of hummingbirds, ducks and feathers. This soon led to branching out into Christian themed jewelry, the first being a small ICHTHUS or open fish design.  This is where the company name of Aguppywear came from. Soon crosses and trinity designs followed plus numerous other items including the four horseshoe nail cross. In 2000 Mark designed the item that would soon become the logo of the company, three 7's carved into a trinity pattern, a designed inspired by Mark's love of Christian music, in particular ideas that came from Stryper and the Seventy-sevens. Years of artistic expression at the Shaker Prairie Shop made it clear that Mark's life would be centered upon his passion for Christian art and jewelry.  After he was unexpectatly let go from the SPS in 2005, Mark has had to find other employment outside the art world but his creativity lives on in his custum designs and logos such as the JESUS PICKED ME! picks he had custom made through Steve Clayton.
